10 Affirmations for Body Acceptance
If I were to ask you to name ten things you love about your body, would you be able to?
How about five?
One?
It’s ok. There was a time when I couldn’t think of a single thing I loved about myself, either. Even now, as a holistic health coach who tries to focus on gratitude and self-love, I have days when I struggle to think of something.
Many of us are now aware of how much we’ve been brainwashed throughout our lives to hate our bodies. To think of ourselves as inadequate. To constantly compare ourselves to the person next to us.
Because we, as a society, are waking up to this, there has been a huge push in recent years towards loving our bodies. This flood of body positivity has certainly created a beautiful movement of women, men and people changing the narrative around their bodies.
Years ago, when I was constantly swirling in self-hatred, the idea loving my body seemed absolutely ridiculous. I respected and admired people who did, but I couldn’t comprehend how to get to that point myself.
I’ve learned that, for a lot of people with low confidence, before we can learn to love our bodies, we have to learn to accept our bodies. In this way, body neutrality is just as beautiful and valid as body positivity.
To begin to work toward treating your body with grace and acceptance, try starting small or functional. After all, your body is meant to function far more than it’s meant to look pretty.
Start with these affirmations, whichever ones resonate with you. Then, when you’re able, create your own.
I love my arms because they allow me to hold the people I love most.
I love my legs because they take me where I need to go.
I love my eyes because they allow me to see the beauty in nature.
I love my smile because it shows others the impact they have on me.
I love my hands because they allow me to create.
I love my feet because they ground me to the earth.
I love my ears because they allow me to hear music.
I love my stomach because it holds the nutrients that nourish my body.
I love my nose because it allows me to smell my favorite person’s cologne.
I love my chest because it holds the air that gives me life.
Now, it’s your turn. What do you love, or at least accept, about your body?
